| Artist Statement: | It is imperative that I paint, and always has been. I am always at home in my artwork, truer to myself and my gifts than I am when I withhold. It is in painting that I can explain my choices, my desires and my character. Abstract work has become my first love, and it is required of me now to explore this subject and medium to its fullest. My first memory is drawing. I drew a red oval in the back of a picture book with a ball point pen while mom was in the kitchen. I drew as much as I could with markers, crayons, colored pencil and ball point pens when I was young. Before I knew it, mom put me in private art lessons where I learned about still life, plein air, pastels, watercolors and my true love - acrylics. I always had a love for the representational, and continued to draw and paint this way through grad school, where I received an MFA in scenic art. My journey has brought me always back to acrylics, and now I paint abstractly, finding the color and medium ever stretching my work. |
